Amarillo Why You Need Temporary Health Insurance
Short term health insurance plans are necessary in several situations. These types of plans work well for those who may be between jobs. It also works well for those who have insurance coming to them through employment, but may need to wait a certain amount of time to be included. Most temporary plans offer health care coverage for up to six months time. Some short term health insurance policies are available for those that want up to a year's worth of coverage. For those needing a longer term option, look at at individual or family health insurance plans as these can be more cost effective for you.
The need for short term health insurance is great, which has allowed for more insurance companies to offer solutions. Obtaining short term coverage is easier and less detailed than longer term programs. Most of these plans provide you with health insurance that covers things like unforeseen accidents or illnesses. Most do not provide all of the standard care options including doctor co pays, dental care, vision care, immunizations or physicals you may need. Short term health insurance plans are a good option for those who want a low cost way to protect themselves from the unknown, but may not work well for families. In general, temporary or short term health insurance coverage is catastrophic in nature.
If you have short term health insurance, you may not be able to take advantage of a “guaranteed issue” HIPAA plan such as the Texas High Risk Pool. Those are highly expensive plans designed to help people who have a hard time qualifying for other health care coverage because of pre existing health conditions. If you may qualify for and want to use a HIPPA plan, do not invest in certain short term health insurance plans as they could cause you to become ineligible. If you have pre existing medical conditions, realize that most short term plans don't provide you with coverage for these illnesses.
For a short term health insurance plan that will not cause a gap in coverage resulting in a loss of HIPPA, get a free temporary health insurance quote and apply here. These short term plans from Assurant Health do qualify as credible coverage and will not cause a gap in coverage of greater than 63 days. If your gap in coverage exceeds 63 days, you would have to wait one year (12 months) before any pre-existing conditions would be covered on other types of plans in most cases.
For those that do not qualify for short term care health insurance, you may want to consider employer sponsored programs from your past employer that may offer a bridge of coverage for a limited amount of time. An example of this is a COBRA plan, which requires that you pay the normal health care costs along with the portion your employer paid, but gives you reliable health care coverage even with an existing medical condition.
